Travel Time and the Roads in Thailand
When we do our calculations for travel time on trip outside of Bangkok, we add 10% to the total from the Google Maps route calculator and then divide the by 75 km/h. We have found from experience that this gives us a very good estimation for travel time, because the central Thailand traffic is bad.
So an example would be: Bangkok -> Damnoen Saduak Floating Market -> Kanchanaburi Tiger Temple -> Bangkok
When you put this into Google Maps (like we have here) it gives a total distance of 400kms, we then add 10% for the local trips and stops, giving us 440kms for the day. Divide this number by 75 km/h and you end up with 5 hours and 50 minutes of travel time for the day.
If anyone else tell you that you’re going to be in the car for less than this, they’re telling you a tall tail to get you to book, either they are trying to make it sound more attractive, which is a common problem here in Thailand, or WORSE they plan to stick you in a van that moving 150km/hour, which we do not recommend.
Anyway, thanks for listening.
