This historical park is located on the hillside above the town of Phetchaburi, its name means Holy City Hill, but it is locally known as Khao Wang which translates in to English as Palace Hill. Built by King Mongkut in 1860, it became his summer palace. And to recognize the significance of Phra Nakhon Khiri in 1979 it was registered as a historical park on August 27.
It consists of three building groups on the western, middle and eastern peaks. The western hill contains the royal residential complex and can view over the surrounding hills and town of Phetchaburi. The eastern hill contains Wat Maha Samanaram and Wat Phra Kaeo, which is similar to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok. Walking between the hills is very amazing. The middle hill contains a big chedi called Phra That Chom Phet, which is believed to contain relics of the Buddha.
